Introduction

904L austenitic stainless steel plate (also 904L high alloy stainless steel plate, 904L high nickel stainless steel plate, 904L molybdenum stainless steel plate) is a super-austenitic 904L corrosion resistant stainless steel designed for aggressive environments. With high nickel (23-28%), high molybdenum (4-5%), and copper addition, it delivers excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in sulfuric acid service. This grade provides outstanding pitting resistance and crevice corrosion resistance, making it the preferred 904L stainless steel plate for aggressive environment where standard 304/316 grades fail.

Applications

(1) Chemical industry – 904L stainless steel plate for chemical industry is used in reactors, storage tanks, and agitators, resisting sulfuric, phosphoric, and acetic acids where lower grades corrode rapidly.

(2) Acid processing – 904L stainless steel plate for acid processing handles sulfuric, hydrofluoric, and mixed acids, ideal for acid pickling lines, acid regeneration towers, and acid concentration units.

(3) Oil and gas – 904L stainless steel plate for oil and gas serves in sour service pipelines and seawater cooling systems, with high molybdenum content resisting pitting and crevice corrosion from chlorides and H₂S.

(4) Marine environment – 904L stainless steel plate for marine environment is specified for marine exhaust stacks, seawater heat exchanger plates, and offshore platforms, offering chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance far superior to 304/316L.

(5) Heat exchanger – 904L stainless steel plate for heat exchanger (tube sheets and plate-type exchangers) provides long-term corrosion resistance in chloride-bearing, acidic cooling water with good thermal conductivity.

(6) Pollution control – 904L stainless steel plate for pollution control is widely used in flue gas desulfurization (FGD) scrubbers, duct linings, and industrial waste gas treatment equipment, resisting wet sulfuric acid and chlorides simultaneously.
