Introduction
A stainless steel pipe tee fitting is a butt weld stainless steel tee used to create branch connections in piping systems, allowing flow to be split or combined. As an industrial stainless steel tee with corrosion resistant stainless steel tee properties, it is available in seamless stainless steel tee construction (or welded). Two primary configurations are offered: equal stainless steel tee (all three outlets have the same diameter) and reducing stainless steel tee (branch outlet diameter smaller than the run). Manufactured to ASTM A403 and ASME B16.9, these tees are supplied as equal tee stainless steel or reducing tee stainless steel in various material grades (304, 316L, duplex, super duplex).
Stainless Steel Tee Available Products and Standard
1. ASTM A403 / ASME SA403
(Standard Specification for Wrought Austenitic Stainless Steel Piping Fittings)
Type:
Stainless Steel Pipe Tee Fitting
Butt Weld Stainless Steel Tee
Seamless Stainless Steel Tee
Size Range:
NPS: 1/2″ – 48″ (DN15 – DN1200)
Wall thickness: Schedule 5S, 10S, 20S, 40S, 80S, 160, XXS
Reducing tee branch size: down to 1/2 of run size (custom ratios available)
Connection: Butt weld ends (beveled for welding)
Surface: Solution annealed, Pickled, Passivated, Mechanically polished (optional)
Testing: Chemical analysis, tensile test, hardness test, flattening test (for welded tees), hydrostatic test (optional), NDE (radiography or PT per ASME B16.34), PMI, dimensional inspection (per ASME B16.9)
2. ASME B16.9 / ASME B16.25
(Standard for Factory‑Made Wrought Butt‑Welding Fittings / End Preparation)
Type:
Industrial Stainless Steel Tee
Corrosion Resistant Stainless Steel Tee
Size Range:
NPS: 1/2″ – 48″ (DN15 – DN600 for B16.9; larger sizes by negotiation)
Wall thickness matching pipe schedule on all ends
Reducing tees: branch NPS ≤ run NPS
End preparation: Beveled ends per ASME B16.25 (for butt welding)
Surface: As‑formed, Annealed, Pickled, Coated
Testing: Dimensional inspection (alignment, angles, end bores, wall thickness, bevel geometry), hardness test (for duplex), NDE (MT/PT for surface defects), marking (material grade, heat number, size, schedule, standard)
Applications
(1)Pipeline – Stainless steel tee for pipeline transmission systems creates branch connections for meter runs, pressure taps, and lateral lines, with equal tees for full‑flow branches and reducing tees for smaller service lines.
(2)Oil and gas – Stainless steel tee for oil and gas facilities (wellhead flowlines, manifold headers, gathering systems) handles high pressure and sour service, with seamless construction eliminating weld seam weaknesses.
(3)Chemical industry – Stainless steel tee for chemical industry (reactor feed lines, mixing headers, distribution networks) resists aggressive acids and solvents, with reducing tees used to feed smaller process units from main headers.
(4)Water treatment – Stainless steel tee for water treatment (RO skid piping, filter arrays, chemical dosing lines) enables flow distribution, with equal tees for balanced splitting and reducing tees for bypass or sampling connections.
(5)Offshore – Stainless steel tee for offshore platforms (topsides piping, subsea distribution hubs, firewater systems) resists chloride corrosion and wave‑induced fatigue, with duplex and super duplex grades preferred.
