Introduction
Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Pipe (2205 Duplex Pipe, UNS S32205 Pipe, UNS S31803 Pipe, EN 1.4462) is a nitrogen‑enhanced duplex stainless steel with a balanced austenitic‑ferritic microstructure, offering approximately twice the yield strength of 316L and superior resistance to chloride pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. It conforms to ASTM A790 (seamless & welded pipe), ASTM A789 (tube), ASTM A928 (welded pipe), and ASME SA790.
Excellent chloride resistance – PREN ≥ 35, ideal for seawater, brackish water, and high‑chloride process streams
High strength duplex stainless steel – yield strength ≥ 450 MPa (65 ksi), allowing thinner wall thickness and weight reduction
Superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance – outperforms 316L and 317L in aggressive environments
Stress corrosion cracking resistance – immune to chloride SCC, suitable for hot, chloride‑containing service
Good weldability – with matching filler metal, retains corrosion resistance in welded condition
