Introduction
17-4PH precipitation hardening stainless steel (also 17-4PH PH stainless steel, 17-4PH high strength stainless steel, 17-4PH martensitic stainless steel) is a heat treatable stainless steel that offers an outstanding combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, and excellent mechanical properties up to 600°F (316°C). It is supplied in multiple heat treatment conditions including 17-4PH H900, 17-4PH H1025, and 17-4PH H1150, allowing precise tailoring of strength and toughness for demanding applications. Manufactured to ASTM A564 17-4PH stainless steel (bar), ASTM A693 17-4PH stainless steel (plate/sheet), UNS S17400, AMS 5643 (bar/forgings), and AMS 5622 / AMS 5604 (sheet/strip/wire), this grade delivers reliable performance across aerospace, industrial, and general engineering sectors.

Application
(1)Aerospace – 17-4PH stainless steel for aerospace components (landing gear, actuator arms, structural brackets) leverages its high strength (H900: Rm ≥1310 MPa) and good corrosion resistance to withstand extreme flight stresses.
(2)Valves – 17-4PH stainless steel for valves (ball valves, gate valves, pressure relief valves in oil & gas and chemical plants) uses H1025 or H1150 aging to provide dimensional stability, wear resistance, and freedom from galling.
(3)Shafts – 17-4PH stainless steel for shafts (pump shafts, compressor shafts, marine propeller shafts) offers high tensile strength, excellent fatigue resistance, and good corrosion resistance in both fresh and salt water.
(4)Pump components – 17-4PH stainless steel for pump components (impellers, pump housings, wear rings) combines high hardness with toughness, resisting erosion and cavitation even at H900 condition.
(5)High strength parts – 17-4PH stainless steel for high strength parts (fasteners, couplings, gears, nuclear waste handling equipment) delivers reliable performance across all heat treatment conditions, with the H1150 temper providing the best resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
