Product details

Introduction

GH2901 Superalloy (GH901 / Incoloy 901 / N09901 / 2.4662) is a Fe-Ni-Cr based precipitation-hardening wrought superalloy that achieves its exceptional strength through γ′ [Ni₃(Ti,Al)] precipitation during controlled aging heat treatment. The alloy contains approximately 40–45% nickel, 11–14% chromium, 5.0–6.5% molybdenum, 2.8–3.1% titanium, and aluminum (≤0.35%), with boron additions (0.01–0.02%) for grain boundary strengthening. This GH2901 nickel base superalloy delivers high yield strength and endurance strength below 650°C (1200°F), good oxidation resistance below 760°C (1400°F), and long-term microstructural stability. Its high temperature nickel alloy characteristics—combined with cost advantages over higher-alloyed nickel-based superalloys—make it the preferred material for aero-engine turbine discs, compressor discs, gas turbine components, high-temperature fasteners, industrial furnace equipment, and petrochemical industry applications. Available in a full range of product forms including GH2901 round barplatesheetpipetubewire, and forgings.

Applications

1. Aerospace & Aero-Engine Components

  • For turbine discs and compressor discs operating below 650°C (1200°F), GH2901 round bar provides high yield strength (≥850 MPa) and creep resistance where other alloys would soften and deform under sustained thermal and mechanical loads.

  • For high-temperature fasteners (bolts, nuts, studs) in aircraft engines and airframe assemblies, GH2901 superalloy maintains clamping force and structural integrity through thousands of thermal cycles from ambient to elevated temperatures.

  • For compressor casings, bearing housings, and turbine outer rings requiring dimensional stability under load, GH2901 forged bar delivers excellent resistance to thermal fatigue and relaxation.

  • For seals, rings, and hot-section hardware in aero-engines, GH2901 sheet and plate offer good formability combined with long-term thermal stability.

2. Gas Turbines & Power Generation

  • For industrial gas turbine compressor discs and turbine wheels, GH2901 bar provides the combination of high-temperature strength and cost-effectiveness that makes it a practical alternative to higher-alloyed nickel-based superalloys.

  • For power generation equipment requiring reliable performance in high-temperature oxidizing environments, GH2901 plate offers oxidation resistance up to 760°C (1400°F) with stable mechanical properties through extended service intervals.

  • For boiler supports, turbine casing fasteners, and structural components in thermal power plants, GH2901 alloy delivers the durability required for demanding energy applications.

3. Petrochemical Industry & Chemical Processing

  • For high-temperature reactors, heat exchangers, and process piping handling corrosive hydrocarbon streams, GH2901 pipe and tube resist oxidation and maintain mechanical integrity at elevated temperatures.

  • For valve stems, pump shafts, and high-temperature fasteners in refinery and petrochemical equipment, GH2901 round bar offers corrosion resistance combined with high-temperature strength.

  • For furnace components and heat treatment fixtures, GH2901 plate and sheet withstand repeated thermal cycling without significant degradation.

4. Nuclear Industry & Marine Engineering

  • For nuclear reactor structural components and fasteners requiring resistance to high-temperature water corrosion and radiation stability, GH2901 superalloy provides reliable performance in demanding nuclear environments.

FAQ – GH2901 Superalloy

Q: What is the equivalent material for GH2901?

A: GH2901 corresponds to Incoloy 901 (commercial name), UNS N09901AMS 5660/5661W.Nr. 2.4975, and Nimonic 901 internationally. It is also known as GH901 in some Chinese standards and is sometimes incorrectly referenced with other UNS designations.

Q: What is the maximum operating temperature for GH2901?

A: GH2901 is suitable for continuous service up to 650°C (1200°F) with high yield strength and creep resistance. It offers good oxidation resistance up to 760°C (1400°F). The alloy maintains long-term microstructural stability at operating temperatures. For service above 760°C, other superalloys such as Inconel 718 or GH4169 are recommended.

Q: What is the difference between GH2901 and Inconel 718?

A: GH2901 is a Fe-Ni-Cr based alloy with approximately 40–45% nickel content and lower overall alloying, offering a cost-effective solution for applications up to 650°C. Inconel 718 has higher nickel (50–55%) and niobium content, providing higher tensile strength (up to 1200 MPa) and better weldability for complex fabricated structures. GH2901 delivers a high-performance-to-cost ratio, while Inconel 718 is selected for applications requiring extreme strength and higher temperature capability above 650°C.

Q: What are the typical applications for GH2901?

A: Aerospace (turbine discs, compressor discs, high-temperature fasteners, casings, seals); gas turbines and power generation (compressor wheels, turbine components, boiler hardware); petrochemical industry (reactors, heat exchangers, valve stems, pump shafts, furnace components); nuclear industry (structural components, fasteners); and marine engineering (deep-sea equipment, offshore structural components).
